Huntington Manor firefighters used the Jaws of Life Sunday morning to free a woman from her car after she drove it through an unoccupied Huntington Station hair salon, fire officials said.

The unidentified woman's car jumped a curb and crashed through a side brick wall of the Gizay Michaels Hair Salon at 214 W. Jericho Tpke. about 11:30 a.m., said Huntington Manor Fire Department Chief Frank McQuade. The woman was taken to Huntington Hospital; her condition was not known. No one else was injured, McQuade said.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.

The vehicle came to a rest in the reception area of the salon, which was closed at the time of the crash. The force of the impact blew out the salon's glass front doors, which firefighters went through so they could get at the woman trapped in the car. About 40 firefighters responded to the scene.

"Thank God it was Sunday and it was closed," said McQuade.

A worker who answered the phone at the salon Sunday confirmed the crash, but declined to comment or identify himself. "We're too stressed," he said.
