Caroline Levesque, 34 of Rhode Island, won the inaugural Suffolk County Marathon in 3:12:03 Sunday. The time qualified her for the Boston Marathon, which was her stated goal.
"I wanted to wait as late as possible," she said of qualifying for the famous New England road race. "This seemed like a fun race."
The time was a personal best for Levesque, who said she ran a 3:22 in 2012.
"This race was really flat," she said. "It was easier to get a good pace and stay steady the whole time."
Running a new course provided it's own set of challenges.
"I didn't have any landmarks to go by," she said. "It wasn't like, 'Oh, when I see this restaurant, I know I'm halfway through.' "
