Suffolk County police are looking for a man who tried to rob a Carvel ice cream store in Port Jefferson Station on Tuesday afternoon, but was rebuffed by an employee.

Police said the man entered the Carvel at 407 Route 112 about 4:25 p.m. and started talking to the employee behind the counter. Then, he demanded money -- but the female employee did not comply, police said.

The suspect then said he would shoot the woman if she didn't give him the money, at which point she walked away and called 911, police said. The suspect fled the store with no money taken. Police said no weapon was displayed.

Police said the suspect is described as being 20 to 30 years old and between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark, long-sleeved shirt, jeans and a black baseball cap, police said.

Sixth Squad detectives are investigating.
