Cat rescued from LIE median in Holtsville by passing driver, deputy sheriff

Monday morning right at rush hour, a westbound motorist spotted a black and white cat huddled up against the Long Island Expressway cement divider just east of Exit 62 in Holtsville.
The woman pulled over to the shoulder of the HOV lane and was, in turn, spotted by Suffolk County deputy Sheriff James Evans, who stopped to give a hand at about 8:30 a.m., the sheriff's office said.
The animal had gotten itself "into a precarious situation," said Chief Michael Sharkey, and just needed a little help.
A match was made, with the woman taking the cat, said Sharkey.
The feline's condition was unknown Tuesday and it was unclear whether the woman was planning to keep the cat.
