The beach at Centerport Yacht Club has been closed to swimming, as heavy rain Friday raised the potential for higher-than-acceptable levels of bacteria, Suffolk County health officials said.
"Bathing in water contaminated with bacteria can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat," said Dr. James Tomarken, county health commissioner.
Learn more about beach closings and openings at the county's beach hotline, 631-852-5822.
