A 22-year-old Central Islip man was killed early Sunday morning while walking in the hamlet, Suffolk County police said.

The victim was identified as Henry Alvarez.

According to a police report, Alvarez stepped into the roadway on Suffolk Avenue about 4:45 a.m. when he was struck by an eastbound 2005 Toyota Scion being driven by Jonathan Caballero, 22, of Central Islip. Caballero was not injured.

Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

No charges were filed, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
