Club at Melville, 260-unit senior community, holds grand opening

The Club at Melville, a 260-unit income-restricted senior community on Deshon Drive, had its grand opening Tuesday.

The celebrations started with a ribbon cutting by Continental Pinewood Development Partners officials and elected officials, including Huntington Town Supervisor Frank P. Petrone and Councilwoman Susan A. Berland welcoming some residents.

While this was a grand opening celebration, construction continues on some of the buildings. The community is built on the site of a former Newsday preprint distribution warehouse.

The development emerged from a complex three-way deal that allowed construction of the affordable senior units, a park, and a house of worship on two separate sites in Melville.

The Town of Huntington Community Development Agency is still accepting applications for some units. To be eligible for those units, the maximum income for a family of one or two is $104,650; for a family of three, $117,700; and for a family of four, $130,800. Applicants must also meet asset qualification requirements.
