Coast Guard: 4 boaters rescued in Moriches Inlet after capsizing
The Coast Guard rescued four people in the Moriches Inlet when their vessel capsized late Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
None of the boaters were wearing life jackets when they were tossed from a 15-foot vessel and found about 5:30 p.m. by a crew from the Coast Guard station in East Moriches, authorities said.
The boaters were taken to the Coast Guard station and no injuries were reported, officials said.
The federal agency urged boaters to file a “float plan” and always have life jackets on when going out on the water.
A float plan is letting family and friends know of travel routes and expected time of return. The Coast Guard recommends sticking to the float plan, which helps rescuers search for overdue boaters.
