A boater who got lost in Thursday night's fog in Moriches Bay was escorted by the Coast Guard to its station in East Moriches, officials said Friday.

The Coast Guard said it had gotten a report from a commercial salvage company that a 16-foot pleasure craft with one person aboard was lost and wanted help.

Communications was established with the boater, who was advised to anchor and remain in place until rescuers arrived, officials said.

The Coast Guard and the boater, who was the craft's owner, remained in touch for half an hour, until a Coast Guard crew from East Moriches arrived, authorities said.

The boater's vessel was escorted and safely moored at the Coast Guard station, the agency's news release said.
