Coast Guard rescues 3 from boat taking on water, officials say
The Coast Guard rescued three mariners Sunday afternoon from a boat that was taking on water in Moriches Bay, authorities said.
A Coast Guard boat on routine patrol was flagged down around 3 p.m. by a 21-foot recreational vessel, Coast Guard Petty Officer Frank Iannazzo-Simmons said.
The boat was taking on water, and officials believe the cause was a faulty hose in the boat’s engine, he said.
The Coast Guard towed the boat up the Forge River to the owner’s residence, the Coast Guard said in a news release. No injuries or pollution were reported, and the mariners were wearing life vests.
Iannazzo-Simmons did not have information about the mariners’ identities.
