Coast Guard rescues canoers off Crane Neck Point
The Coast Guard said it rescued two men from a sinking canoe off Crane Neck Point in Old Field on Monday.
Coast Guard crew members who were searching for a missing kayaker came across two people in a canoe waving their paddles and signaling for help, the agency said.
Waves had crashed over the top of their canoe, causing it to take on water, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
“The two boaters were taking on water with only one lifejacket aboard the canoe,” Petty Officer 3rd Class John McMahon said in the release.
The Coast Guard took the men and their canoe ashore. No injuries were reported.
