A fishing boat crewman was evacuated Monday by helicopter from his vessel 35 miles off Shinnecock, after complaining of breathing difficulties, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard retrieved the crewman from the Monomoy, a 90-foot fishing vessel based out of New Bedford, Mass., using a winch-controlled rescue basket. He was brought to a Long Island hospital about 4 p.m., the Coast Guard said.

Information concerning the crewman's identity and condition was not immediately available.
