Coast Guard rescues injured crew member
An injured crew member on a containership about 48 miles south of Montauk was airlifted Tuesday to Stony Brook University Hospital, the U.S. Coast Guard said Wednesday.
The 53-year-old crew member, whose name was not released, had suffered an eye injury, the Coast Guard said, and a video made by the Coast Guard showed the man putting his left hand up to his left eye several times as he was being hoisted from the ship, the Düsseldorf Express, to the Coast Guard helicopter.
The Coast Guard said it dispatched a helicopter and crew from Cape Cod after the ship, the Düsseldorf Express, reported the injury and said it could not reach a port quickly.
The injured man was in stable condition, the Coast Guard said.
