Suffolk Police Marine Bureau officers rescued two men from a burning boat in the Long Island Sound on Sunday.

Police said they received a call at about 1:50 p.m. reporting a boat fire about 4 miles north of Port Jefferson Harbor.

Flames and heavy smoke were shooting out of the stern of the boat when Marine Bureau Officers Matt Funaro and Dave Goldstein arrived at the scene, police said. They found the two boaters at the bow of a 40-foot Formula 400 SS boat, and brought them aboard the bureau's Marine Delta rescue boat.

Once on shore, the boaters, Cary Cieciuch, 50, and Kevin Totora, 42, both of Stratford, Connecticut, were treated for smoke inhalation by the Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance.

Firefighters from the Port Jefferson, Mount Sinai and Setauket Fire Departments, extinguished the fire, and the boat was later towed to shore by Sea Tow, a commercial marine towing company, police said.
