A Commack man was high on drugs when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed onto the grounds of a Dix Hills elementary school Wednesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

John Alouisa, 26, was going north on Deer Park Avenue when he swerved just after 3:30 p.m. and hit a curb, causing his Nissan Altima to overturn and hit a tree on the grounds of the Vanderbilt Elementary School, police said.

Alouisa was charged with driving while intoxicated by drugs and was taken to Huntington Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

There were no children in the area at the time, police said.
