Commack house fire kills dog, Suffolk police say

A fire late Friday ruined a home and killed a dog in Commack, Suffolk County police said.
Police received a call about a house on Dryden Way that was in flames about 9 p.m. Friday, a police spokeswoman said. The Commack Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze.
None of the home’s occupants was injured, although their dog was killed, the spokeswoman said. A firefighter was also taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Suffolk County police arson squad is investigating.
