Commuters freed from stuck LIRR elevator
Did they make their train?
Four people were reported trapped in an elevator at the Ronkonkoma Long Island Rail Road station Wednesday morning, a railroad spokesman said, but police who arrived at the scene 12 minutes after a 911 call did not find anyone stuck in an elevator.
Firefighters were also sent to the station, but it was not immediately clear if they freed the passengers or if the passengers managed to escape on their own, Suffolk County fire officials said.
Railroad spokesman Sam Zambuto said the emergency call to MTA police reporting four people trapped came from the call box inside the elevator cab. He said the elevator, on the south side of the platform, had been taken out of service for repairs.
It was not immediately known what had caused the malfunction, he said.
No one was injured.
It was not known how long the people were trapped, he said.
