Comsewogue school district
VOTING
9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Comsewogue High School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes an $85,187,350 budget for 2015-16, a 2.25 percent increase from the current $83,309,267. The local tax levy would rise 2.2 percent, from $51,760,767 to $52,892,350.
The increase is within the state's tax-cap limit of 2.2 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family home would increase 2.2 percent, from $6,901 to $7,052.
The proposed budget includes an average step increase of 1.8 percent for teachers but no salary increase. It adds the equivalent of 7.4 teaching positions.
A ballot proposition asks voters to approve providing transportation, at no additional cost to the district, to all students who attend John F. Kennedy Middle School. Currently, transportation is available only to students who live more than a half-mile from the school.
