Southampton Town bay constables rescued two people and a dog from a vessel that ran aground Saturday in western Shinnecock Bay off Phillips Point, police said.

The operator of the vessel sent a distress call at about 5:35 p.m. that it had run aground, and the call was answered by Constable Danielle McManus aboard Marine Patrol Vessel No. 9, town police said Monday in a news release.

Upon arrival, McManus found the vessel taking water quickly and safely removed a woman passenger and a dog, police said.

Southampton bay constables along with commercial assistance towing companies were able to safely escort the damaged vessel to Smith Creek in Hampton Bays.

Southampton Bay Constable Mark Ruocco assisted in the operation, and no injuries were reported, according to the release.
