Cops: 1 seriously hurt as truck hits building in Wyandanch

A worker at a Wyandanch recycling facility was seriously injured Thursday when a truck struck a wall, knocking bricks onto his head, police said.
Elvin Cruz, 26, an employee at Great Northern Fibers, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip to be treated for injuries that were not considered life- threatening, Suffolk County police said.
The incident happened at about 11:40 a.m. at Great Northern Fibers on Field Street and involved a 2017 Mack truck, police said.
Sean Lynch, 55, of Shirley, a worker with AM Waste Services, was unloading a 30-yard trash bin filled with cardboard when the truck struck a wall, knocking down several bricks — some of which hit Cruz, police said. Lynch was not hurt.
Suffolk police First Squad detectives are investigating, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded to the scene, along with the Babylon Town building inspector.
The cause of the accident was not known, and a representative of Great Northern Fibers declined to comment.
