Cops: 10 violated sex offender registry act
A joint investigation over a three-month period has led Southampton Town police to arrest 10 men on charges of violating the state's sex offender registry act, the department said Sunday.
The arrests came after a concentrated effort involving Southampton Town's Juvenile Aid Officers, Suffolk County Police Department and the United States Marshall's Service, officials said.
Police said the arrests are for violations of New York State Correction Law Sex Offender Registry Act.
Individuals designated as sex offenders by law have to notify the state Division of Criminal Justice Services of their place of residence, according to a news release.
Law enforcement officers checked addresses in Southampton and found that the addresses did not match those provided by registered sex offenders, police said.
Police said those arrested on felony charges of failing to notify officials of a new change of address included Richard Ramos, John Shelton, Jason Bullock, Carl Graves, James Stoutmire, William Keene, Robert Trocchio, John Martinolich and Benjamin Griffin.
Lucas Rivera was charged with failure to personally verify his address with local law enforcement every 90 days, police said.
Arraignment information was not immediately available.
