Eleven people were injured after the van they were in struck a pole in front of 62 Hewlett Avenue in East Patchogue at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015. Credit: James Carbone

Eleven people were hurt, including one seriously, after the van they were in struck a pole Wednesday in East Patchogue, Suffolk County police said.

Heading south on Hewlett Avenue, the van struck the pole at 11:15 a.m.

Ten people were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, one with serious injuries, the rest with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The 11th person was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police had no further information.
