Police responding to a fight scene and reports of a person with a gun arrested two residents of a Riverhead apartment complex and recovered a loaded Intratec Tec-9 .9-mm assault weapon, police said.

The incident occurred at 6:15 p.m. Monday at the River Pointe apartments on East Main Street, Riverhead police said.

Arrested were Shorne T. Brown, 34, and Deja S. Daniels, 31, both of 821 E. Main St., Apartment H2.

Brown was charged with second-degree and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. Daniels was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. Arraignment details were not available Tuesday.

Police said initial reports were of "a large fight" in front of the H building in the complex -- and subsequent callers reported seeing a gun.

A search of the suspects' apartment recovered the gun in the bathroom, police said.
