Two suspects who fled the scene of a Sunday night crash in Westhampton Beach left behind one crucial piece of evidence, police said. The car.

Westhampton Beach police are trying to locate the owner of the 1995 Lexus that crashed in Country Heroes delicatessen on Montauk Highway at 8:43 p.m.

Westhampton Beach police Lt. Trevor Gonce said the car has South Carolina plates and is registered to an address in North Charleston. He said police have not yet been able to locate the owner of the car.

The accident caused significant damage to the deli, Gonce said. "The front of the establishment was taken out," he said.

Gonce said the crash damaged a door, two windows and "the whole front wall."

He said an ATM at the front of the store was sent crashing into a bathroom.

The store was closed at the time of the accident.

No one was injured.

Gonce said a witness described seeing two male suspects fleeing the scene and said a Suffolk County police helicopter was called in to search for the two men, as was a canine unit from the Riverhead Town police department. The police dog tracked the suspects for about a half-mile, Gonce said, but lost the scent near South Road and Liberty Street.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call investigators at 1-631-288-3444.
