Cops: 2 charged with fraud after speeding stop
Two Brooklyn men were arrested in Islip Tuesday and charged with multiple counts including credit card fraud and forgery after they were stopped for speeding on the Sagtikos Parkway, state police said.
Francis Berquin, 37, the driver, and Mario Jeanty Jr., 29, the passenger, were traveling as fast as 85 miles per hour in a 2006 BMW when they were stopped by state troopers at about 9:10 p.m. Monday, police said.
After the stop, the officers found that the men had several forged credit cards, gift cards and electronic items purchased with the forged cards at several Best Buy stores, police said. Jeanty, who was wanted on similar charges in New York City, Massachusetts and New Jersey, tried to hide his true identity, and was also charged with criminal impersonation, police said.
