A bicycle thief in a chicken costume was last seen in Rocky Point pedaling from the scene of the crime Monday afternoon, Suffolk police said. Two accomplices, both dressed in gorilla suits, fled on foot, police said.

A 15-year-old boy was riding the bicycle in the vicinity of 346 Route 25A about 1:15 p.m., police said, when he was accosted by the three costumed assailants.

One of the gorilla-suited suspects punched the victim in the head, knocking him off the bicycle, before they took the bike and fled, police said.

The teenager was taken to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, treated for minor injuries, and released, police said.

Detectives asked anyone with information concerning the attack and theft to contact Seventh Squad officers at 631-852-8752 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
