Cops: 3 arrested in Southampton car theft
Two people from Riverhead and another from Queens were arrested after stealing a car Thursday from a worker at a Southampton gas station, State Police said.
A state trooper who stopped at the Valero gas station on Route 24 at about 11:50 p.m. encountered the employee, who said his car was missing.
The worker at the station told the trooper he had parked his car, a maroon Mitsubishi Galant, on the side of the building and when he came out later it was gone.
Another trooper later spotted the car being driven on Route 25 after leaving a Citgo gas station, police said. The trooper stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, Shineta Robinson, 37, and two passengers, William Belcher, 45, and Samuel Mitchell, 51, police said.
Robinson and Belcher live in Riverhead; Mitchell is from Far Rockaway.
Police said Mitchell also had a GPS system taken from the vehicle.
Each is charged with felony grand larceny, and Mitchell is also charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
They were scheduled for arraignment Friday in Southampton Town Court. Their arraignment information was not available Friday night.
