Three people were injured, one seriously, after a head-on car collision that shut down roads in Westhampton Beach for more than four hours Wednesday, Westhampton Beach police said.

A Volvo was going north on Old Riverhead Road when it crossed into the southbound lane and hit a Ford van just before 5 p.m., police said. The accident happened near Rogers Road, and both roads were temporarily closed, police said.

The Volvo driver suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center, police said. The car's passenger was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said, while the Ford's driver, who also had non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.

Police said the cause of the accident is being investigated. No other details were provided.
