Police investigate the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Bellport on Montauk Highway which left a driver with serious injuries and sent a family of four to the hospital Thursday night, June 23, 2016, police said. Credit: Stringer News Service

A two-vehicle crash in Bellport left a driver with serious injuries and sent a family of four to the hospital Thursday night, Suffolk county police said.

The crash happened on Montauk Highway when a westbound driver of a sedan lost control and hit an eastbound sport utility vehicle carrying a couple and their two teenage sons, police said.

The cause of the collision, which happened about 9:40 p.m., was being investigated, police said.

The sedan driver, the sole occupant, suffered serious injuries and was take Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, police said.

The SUV’s occupants did not have life-threatening injuries but were also taken to the hospital, police said.

Other details were not immediately available, police said.
