A 9-year-old boy was in serious condition Sunday morning after a hit-and-run driver struck him while he was riding his bicycle in Bellport Saturday night.

Suffolk Police arrested Roberto Fuentes, 32, of East Patchogue in connection with the accident at 8:38 p.m. at the corner of Patchogue Avenue and Post Avenue.

Fuentes, police said, was driving west on Patchogue Avenue and failed to stop at the stop sign at Post Avenue, struck another car and caromed into the boy on his bicycle. Officials said Fuentes left the scene and was arrested later by Suffolk police. He faces a series of charges and is to be arraigned Sunday.

Police did not identify the boy, who along with his bicycle was dragged under Fuentes' car. He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
