A man on an ATV who led Suffolk police on a chase was arrested and charged with fleeing and reckless endangerment after he crashed into a tree, police said.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was seen by police riding an ATV quad on Dare Road in Selden at around 2 p.m., a police spokeswoman said.

When police attempted to pull him over, he fled through a wooded area and lost police for a short while. But officers were able to catch up to him on Old Town Road, the spokeswoman said.

Following a brief pursuit, the man struck a tree and was ejected from his ATV on Wedgewood Drive in Coram, she said.

He was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center and treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, the spokeswoman said.

The man was arrested and charged with third degree unlawful fleeing a police officer and second-degree reckless endangerment, she said.

The arrest was handled by the 6th Precinct.
