Cops: Bank worker faces termination after 'Facebooking' teen client

Chase Bank pledged to fire a 29-year-old male employee after he sent a Facebook "friend" request to a 15-year-old girl whose mother had brought her to a Northport branch to open a bank account, Northport police said Friday.

The mother reported the incident after the employee opened the account on Sept. 5, receiving "all required personal information," and sent the daughter a friend request about 15 minutes after they left the bank, police said.

The mother, believing the request to be "very inappropriate" in light of her daughter's age and the man's access to personal information, first reported the incident to the bank manager, police said.

The manager told police the employee had been reprimanded for a similar occurrence last September and that the bank "has decided to terminate his employment." A bank spokesman said Friday he could not comment on a personnel issue.

In an interview with police, the man said he had "done this about eight times in the past 18 months," said police, who had on file a similar report involving him and an 18-year-old woman dated Aug. 22, 2013.

The incidents "appear to include inappropriate but not criminal behavior," police said.
