Cops: Barricaded man commits suicide

A man who had barricaded himself in a Holbrook motel room Sunday was found dead, an apparent suicide, Suffolk police said.

Police received a 911 call at 11:57 a.m. reporting a man barricaded in a room at the MacArthur Inn on Veterans Memorial Highway.

Officers found the unidentified man dead after he failed to answer calls to the room from hostage negotiators, police said.

During the standoff, police closed Veterans Memorial Highway in both directions between Lincoln and Central avenues. It has since been reopened.
