Cops: Bicyclist stable after hit by car on Route 110

A bicyclist crossing against a light was struck by a car in North Amityville on Saturday night, Suffolk County police said.

The bicyclist, a 55-year-old North Amityville man, was riding east on Jefferson Avenue at around 10 p.m. when he tried to cross Route 110 when the light was red, police said.

He was hit by a 2003 Audi A4 that was traveling south on Route 110, police said.

The bicyclist suffered two broken legs and was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old Massapequa man, was not charged.

Police did not release the identities of the bicyclist or the driver.
