Suffolk County police homicide squad detectives said they are investigating the death of a man found on a Miller Place beach on Wednesday.

A man looking for driftwood discovered the body of a man lying on the sand in front of the Miller Beach Surf Club at 23 Harbor Beach Rd., and Sixth Precinct police officers were called to the beach, police said.

A preliminary investigation by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office indicated the man was a victim of violence, police said. The man's body was taken to the Office of the Suffolk County medical examiner, where an autopsy will be performed.

Anyone with information on this death is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or to Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
