A burglar fled a Fort Salonga house empty-handed Wednesday night when he realized the homeowner was there, Suffolk County police said.

No proceeds were taken in the burglary attempt at a home on Middleville Road around 7:45 p.m. The homeowner reported the break-in in a 911 call at 7:48 p.m., police said.

Police said the burglar believed the home to be unoccupied -- only to find out otherwise and flee the scene.

No other details were immediately available.

Police said Second Squad detectives are investigating.
