A 54-year-old Connecticut man was arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated after police said a man on his boat fell overboard in Orient Harbor -- and responding marine officers determined the boat operator was intoxicated.

Brian Dermody, 54, of Stafford Springs, Conn., was charged with BWI following the incident Sunday night.

Southold Town police said a passenger, identified at Wayne McBreairty, 45, of Ellington, Conn., had fallen overboard in Orient Harbor but by the time a marine unit reached the vessel McBreairty was back aboard.

However, police said Dermody was determined to be intoxicated during a subsequent interview and was arrested. He was being held for arraignment.

Neither McBreairty nor another passenger, Steve Morse of Tolland, Conn., was injured.
