Suffolk police say a 20-year-old college student was struck and killed by an automobile while walking back to his dorm in Central Islip.

Benjamin Cecil was crossing Carleton Avenue at the intersection of South Research Place just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a car driven by Mary Ann Malloy, according to police.

The New York Institute of Technology student from Washington, D.C. was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

Police say witnesses reported that Malloy, of Amityville, had a green light. She was not injured and her car was impounded for a safety check.
