One person was killed when a car burst into flames early Saturday on Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson Station, Suffolk police said.

Police and the Setauket Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after 5 a.m. Authorities provided no details about the identity of the dead person or any other occupants in the car.

Photos from the scene show the four-door sedan suffered damage to the front end. It's unclear if the car crashed before it caught fire.

The circumstances of the incident, police said, remain under investigation.
