Suffolk County police late last night were investigating the death of an East Northport woman in a single-car crash earlier in the day.

Second Squad detectives said Barbara Dedicke, 78, veered off the road and struck a parked car and then a utility pole. Det. Sgt. John O'Sullivan said a cause of death had not been determined, but nothing was being ruled out and the medical examiner's office would determine whether Dedicke's age or health played a role in the crash.

No one else was in the car and no one else was hurt in the crash, investigators said.

Investigators said Dedicke was driving a 2005 Honda south on Elwood Road when her car left roadway and hit the parked car and then the pole north of Clay Pitts Road about 3:30 p.m.

Dedicke, Sixth Street, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical examiner's office.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing, police said.
