Cops: Centereach crash seriously injures woman
The westbound lanes of Route 25/Middle Country Road near Nichols Road in Centereach were closed for more than eight hours Saturday morning after an accident that injured three people, with one of them in serious condition.
Suffolk County police said the accident occurred at 1:30 a.m. when a Selden woman driving a Mitsubishi Galant east on Middle Country Road, trying to make a left turn onto North Coleman Road, was struck by a westbound Mercedes-Benz.
The woman, 52, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with head injuries and fractures to both legs. She is listed in serious condition, police said.
The driver and passenger of the Mercedes were also taken to the Stony Brook hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Closed just after 2:30 a.m., the road reopened about 11 a.m., according to the New York State Department of Transportation website.
