A Coram man was in serious condition Wednesday evening after Suffolk County Police said he was hit by a taxi while walking his dog.

John Becker, 69, of Ronkonkoma, was driving a Lindy's Taxi cab westbound on Route 25 in Coram at about 8 p.m. when he struck a pedestrian who was walking his dog, police said.

The victim, Metin Gilav, 23, may have been in the roadway when the accident took place, police said.

Gilav was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition with head injuries.

No charges are expected, but the vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate.
