A young man riding a bike through Bay Shore was shot after he told two robbers he had no money, Suffolk County police said.

The bike rider, whose name and age were not released, was shot once in the leg in the Tuesday night confrontation. Police said he was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting occurred at 10:19 p.m. on Redington Street, police said. They said the two assailants, both in their early 20s, stopped the bicyclist, flashed a gun -- and demanded cash.

When the cyclist said he had no money, he was shot.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Third Squad detectives at 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

All calls will remain confidential.
