Cops: Deer dies, motorcyclist hurt in crash

A motorcyclist suffered minor injuries late Monday night when his bike collided with a deer on Sunrise Highway in Shirley, police said.

Suffolk County police said the deer died in the accident, which occurred on eastbound Sunrise west of the William Floyd Parkway at 11:06 p.m.

The identity of the motorcyclist was not released. Police said he was taken to a hospital by Mastic Ambulance with minor injuries.

Statistics on deer-versus-motor vehicle crashes were not immediately available.
