A 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he rear-ended another car on Sunrise Highway, sending a man and 7-year-old boy to the hospital, police said.

Suffolk County police said the crash occurred on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst at about 8 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the man and the boy in the car that was struck were both taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with nonlife-threatening injuries. Police did not identify them.

James Madden of Farmingdale was also taken to Good Samaritan, where police said he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.
