A 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after his car rear-ended another car on Sunrise Highway, sending a man and 5-year-old boy to the hospital.

Suffolk County police said the crash occurred on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst at about 8 p.m. Sunday.

None of the people involved were identified by police.

Police said the man and the boy in the car that were struck were both taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with non-life-threatening injuries. The 40-year-old driver also was taken to Good Samaritan, where police said he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.
