Cops: Driver dies after North Amityville crash
An East Farmingdale man seriously injured in a two-car crash Tuesday in North Amityville has died, Suffolk police said Wednesday afternoon.
Chester Spinek, 87, was driving a 1996 Saturn south on Route 110 near Nathalie Avenue about 8:45 p.m. when he tried to make a left turn, police said.
Spinek's car hit a 2005 Acura TL that was traveling north on Route 110, police said.
Spinek was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he initially was listed in serious condition, police said. Police said he died of his injuries.
The driver of the Acura, Naresh Wadhwa, 38, of Bay Shore, also was taken to Good Samaritan where he was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.
Anyone with information on the crash can call the First Squad at 631-854-8152. All calls will be kept confidential.
