A man who was driving while intoxicated drove off the road in <a href="/topics/Orient%2C_NY">Orient</a>, then struck a sign that read "Welcome to New York," police said Friday. 
Steven Arnott, 57, of <a href="/topics/East_Marion%2C_NY">East Marion</a>, was headed east on Route 25 in <a href="/topics/Orient%2C_NY">Orient</a> about 1:15 a.m., police said. Arnott crashed into brush, backed out and struck the sign, police said. 
After a stop by <a href="/topics/Southold%2C_NY">Southold</a> Town police officers, he was arrested early Friday and charged with DWI, police said. 
Arraignment details were not immediately available.
