A Northport man was high on drugs late Wednesday when he drove his car off the shoulder of the Sunken Meadow Parkway in Commack, striking several trees and seriously injuring his passenger, State Police said.

Frank Murray, 35, had minor injuries and was arrested on a charge of driving while his ability was impaired by drugs, police said. His arraignment information was not immediately available.

His passenger, Jeffrey O'Rourke, 35, of Port Washington, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said. Information on his condition was not immediately available Thursday.

Police said Murray was driving a Nissan Altima north on the Sunken Meadow, near the Northern State Parkway exit, at about 11:15 p.m. when the car left the road and struck several trees off the right shoulder.
