Detectives are investigating a head-on crash in Holtsville Thursday that killed one of the drivers.

The accident occurred at 12:40 p.m. on North Ocean Avenue, south of Summerfield Drive, Suffolk County police said in a news release.

Henry Villegas, 56, of Farmingville, was driving a 2010 Dodge north on North Ocean "when he crossed over into the southbound lane," striking a 2013 Volkswagen driven by Samantha Velez, 22, of Holtsville, police said.

Villegas was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead. Velez also was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.No passengers were in either car, police said.

"The cars will be impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing," police said in the news release.

Anyone with information about the accident is urged to call Fifth Squad detectives at 631-854-8552.
